Signing in

Getting started. How to sign in, how invites work, and what the sign-in messages mean.

Cardinal is invite-only. You sign in with an email address and a password on the Sign in page.

Your first sign-in: the invite link

Whoever manages you makes a one-time invite link on your member page. It lasts 14 days and is tied to the email address on your member record. It may arrive by email, or they may copy it to you.

  1. Open the link. The page says "Join" and the workspace name, and shows the email address it is for.
  2. Choose "I'm new to Cardinal" and pick a password of at least 12 characters, then "Create account and join".
  3. If you already have a Cardinal account in another workspace, choose "I already have a Cardinal account (another workspace)" and sign in with that password instead.
  4. Your mailbox may need to be confirmed first. If Cardinal asks, confirm the email, then open the invite link again.

After that, sign in on the Sign in page like anyone else.

Messages you may see

  • "Invite not valid": the link was used, has expired, or is wrong. Ask whoever invited you for a new one.
  • "Your account isn't part of any workspace now. Ask for an invite.": your membership ended. Your account still exists, but there is nothing to open.
  • "This dashboard is private.": you are signed in with an account that may not open that page.

A failed sign-in takes a few seconds to answer on purpose, and the message is the same whatever went wrong. That stops people guessing which emails have accounts.

Where you land

The workspace owner lands on the full app. Everyone else lands on their own page. Before the app opens the first time, you pass the setup on your computer (see "Set up on a Mac" or "Set up on Windows"). Use Sign out in the top bar to leave.
