Moving to a new computer
Each computer has its own install line and its own key.
On the new computer
- Install the Claude Code CLI and run
claudeonce to sign in with your Claude plan. Install Node.js 20 or later. - Open the Setup page. If the new computer runs a different system (Mac to Windows, or the other way), change your choice in step 1 and save. Changing it starts the checks again, so the new computer has to show up before the test passes.
- Press "Show my install line" (or "Make a new line"). Each line holds a fresh key for that computer.
- Paste it in Terminal on a Mac or PowerShell on Windows.
- Ask Claude one question, then press "Test my setup".
If you set up more than one Claude surface, tick them again on the new computer's choice.
On the old computer
- Remove the runner. See "Removing Cardinal from a computer".
- Remove Cardinal's settings from your Claude settings file, or restore the backup the installer made.
If both computers keep their runners, that's safe: they never take the same job. But the old one keeps sending usage, and you may forget it exists.
Revoke the old key
Open your member page (Team, then your name). Under the keys list, press Revoke next to the old computer's key. Its Claude Code stops reporting at once. Giving keys a clear label, like "work laptop", makes this easier.
Your history
Your numbers belong to you as a member, not to the computer, so nothing is lost when you move.
